Pour The Light Out

September 26th, 2010

Pouring Light LampI love interesting cute lamps, because they light up my home, and my life as well. Every little lamp has a different kind of light and shape, therefore has a different kind of feeling, and I love changes! So I guess generally that’s why I love different lamps, and love to buy many interesting lamps. See what I’ve found this time – the Pouring Light Lamp.

Thanks to Korean designer Yeongwoo Kim, we can now have a unique experience of pouring light out of a tea cup. Inspired by moving water, the Pouring Light Lamp comes with a cup part and a water part, and the latter is filled with phosphorescence to create an amazing flow of light. So how do you like the lamp?

It’s literally a cup for light! How interesting! The cup looks amazing when it’s upside down and when bathed in the silent glow of beautiful lights.

World’s First Flax Fiber BicycleYeah, I’ve always wanted a quite unique bicycle, although so many we’ve introduced this one has a very unique quality that attracts me – It is the World’s First Flax Fiber Bicycle! Yes, it is made of flax fiber, the material we’d love to wear on ourselves, it is now wrapping the bicycle too. Can’t believe it? Check the story out.

Though flax fiber is widely used for suits, have you ever thought of making a bike with the same material? Actually, the world’s first bike made from flax fiber has already won EuroBike Gold Award. Built from biodegradable flax fibers, the bike is durable and lightweight, and it performs well at absorbing and dampening road vibrations. Safety Plug

September 19th, 2010

The Plug Wears A Collapsible Coat To Protect You From Electric ShocksThere are many gadgets in our home, our life is made up of lots of gadgets actually. And what kind of gadgets we use the most in today’s life? The plugs I guess, since you know, we now have so many electronic appliances (and a lot we introduced here at myhouseholdappliances.com). Those appliances need electricity so we see these little plugs everywhere, but have you noticed that they are actually not so safe? Well here’s the plug that wears a collapsible coat which will protect you from electric shocks.

The action of pushing in or pulling out a plug seems really simple but not that pleasant, coz times and times again there’re people getting shocked when plugging in and out. So to save your fingers from electrified discomfort, designer Luofang Jun has come up with an innovative and practical plug that has a collapsible coat at the end to keep your flesh away from the metal prongs, and still ensuring you to easily have the plug in or out.

This is actually safer to us and it may mean much more to families with little kids, and also this is quite beautiful too. I love the design, the idea, this is the kind of idea I would like to call “the designs for a better life”.

Washer that Requires Real Efforts

September 18th, 2010

interesting wash machineClothes washing, we do it almost everyday, but exercise, we always have too much excuses to not do it. But now it seems no excuse to avoid exercise any more with this new washing machine. Called the Pedal Powered Washing Machine, it exclaims that “No Exercise, No Clean Clothes!”

You’ll never pick up any clean clothes from the washing machine unless you take exercise. That’s what we may have to face when China based electronics company Haier launches its Pedal-Powered Washing Machines in the future. Shown at IFA 2010, the eco machine is really simple but practical: the charging battery will power the machine to wash clothes when a man pedals on the exercise bike. And you don’t have to spare too much time, as basically 20 minutes of work can wash one load of clothes on cold cycle.

I think the idea’s actually great, now there’s a pretty good reason everyday to take exercise! Since the human-powered washing machine would save your money and keep your figure, will it be taken back to your home?

Kindle Apps to Come

September 16th, 2010

Amazon bring apps to the KindleThe Amazon Kindle is really a hot deal lately,  almost everybody wants one. To me, it is like that only after the Kindle was born have we realized how much we love reading :)  ! Frankly, the Amazon Kindle is already legendarily good as an e-reader, but there will never be an enough to the market demands, the market wants more, so now it’s time to bring apps to the Kindle.

Amazon is planning to bring apps onto its Kindle e-reader. The retail site and Kindle-makers have just opened an app-making developer kit for its device, and apps should be arriving on the e-reader sometime later this year.

Kindle apps, I’m gonna call them Kapps would we imagine do a range of things based around the Kindle’s core function of books and reading.

A Kindle is of course a little flat portable 3-G internet-connected computer (could we call it a tablet? not quite sufficient…) and Amazon have realised they can add value and functionality to it if they let apps on (and then it’ll be more qualified to be called a tablet).

Key Kindle features are a 7-day (now improved to a month with the latest generation) battery life and the electronic display that looks like real paper. There’s already a marketplace for writers to upload work and readers to download and pay for it, so business-wise, the model is already there.

One kindle-app currently in development is from Handmark who are building an active Zagat guide featuring their trusted ratings, reviews, and other guides to restaurants around the world. Sonic Boom is building word games and puzzles (some are now available at Amazon already).

Perhaps a Facebook app would be fun so you could share thoughts and recommendations with friends, creating online book clubs. Sort of. Other fun stuff would include marginalia apps, letting you write little comments in the margins that others could choose to read and share if they wanted.

With the market for e-readers looking a little shaky, in the face of the Apple Tablet launch on 27th Jan, I guess it makes sense that Kindle-makers get a bit inventive.

I think it is totally great to bring some decent apps to the Kindle device, the word games and puzzles already out are quite enjoyable, so I do believe the apps will make the Kindle even more appealing to us. But one thing we should always remember is that the Kindle is above all an e-reader and its main job is reading, and that’s what the Kindle-makers should always keep in mind too!

Spread Light from Incense Sticks

September 15th, 2010

Incense Stick Mood LightsHave you ever seen softly spreading light from an incense? Mood lights are a very nice thins to keep at home, when the night comes and you want to keep quiet and have a meditation, they’re the perfect light to help you. Soft and interesting, with a mysterious eastern feeling, these Incense Stick Mood Lights will even give you a new quiet beautiful lifestyle.

Incense sticks are widely used in the east, and countries like China, Korea and Japan all have a tradition of burning incense to worship the God or ancestors. But the incense here is not made for burning, but for lighting. Charged by a base station, the “Scent” lights can be placed individually or collectively, to offer you soft warm light in the night.

Having lights like that we all should be happy at home, and all the troubles inside our heart will be wiped off softly.

Look At The Vase with A Big Mouth

September 14th, 2010

Funnel Vase by Roger ArquerWe all love to  place some flowers at home, they smell good and look beautiful, moreover they add some life into our home. However as many of us have done to purchase a beautiful vase for the flowers, the vase didn’t work out well. Indeed there’re many beautiful vases out in the market, but it seems that they all aim at the goal of a more beautiful one, but not the convenience for us. So many of them do have a style of fashion, but barely have an attitude for life. Now thanks to the Funnel Vase designed by Roger Arquer, things have been changed eventually!

Called Funnel Vase, the ceramic vase designed by Roger Arquer features a simple but meaningful change: a funnel on the side allows the users to change water without having to remove the flowers. Also deemed as an art piece, the Funnel Vase will be on show at the ‘Translations’ exhibition during London Design Festival later this month.

It is beautiful, innovative design, and as a beautiful vase it is amazingly convenient!

V-tape for Easy Use

September 13th, 2010

V-tape By Zhichuan TangIn our daily life, we often find ourselves in the place of needing a scissor for cutting the tapes, but scissors are not always at hand, moreover some times they can be quite hard to find since you may not have to good habit of putting it back after using. So designer Zhichuan Tang has comes to help you with these situations with his new design called the V-tape.

The V-tape is made with a V cut on one side, so you can always cut the tape by the V without a scissor. Honestly, I would prefer to look for a scissor even though the V Cut cellotape is indeed a good design that ensures an easier usage than regular cellotapes. As all the V cuts are designed in the same place, you cannot tear out smaller than one roll length and that no doubt results to waste. So my suggestion is: always take along a scissor or forgive yourself wasting the tapes.

I think the idea is quite good, but apparently not perfect, let’s just hope that a better idea that would solve the problem perfectly will come soon!
