New Apple creation, an iPad

January 31st, 2010

Apple TabletWhether love it or hate it, the one thing you can’t deny is that Apple’s ads are awesome and the buzz they make is huge, and now as their new creation comes out, the whole world is talking about the iPad!

Though the iPhone can be considered Apple’s next-generation MessagePad, after much speculation Apple’s long-rumored entrance into tablet computing has finally arrived. As Apple always does, its new Tablet has been built in a nutshell. At first glance, the device basically resembles a large iPhone, complete with a home button and glass touch screen. True to the style that has come to define Apple products, the device looks simple and well-built, with a rigid glass display and a inch or so of bezel area around the display. The display is a full capacitive multitouch panel, as was expected, but is also an LED-backlit IPS (In-Plane Switching) display that has a great viewing angle. The back is aluminum, and there are various connectors on the sides for power, sleep, and volume controls.

On the inside, Apple has given us a surprise. The device uses an Apple-designed chip it is calling the “A4,” which runs at 1GHz and is used for managing everything: processing, graphics, and I/O. The system has between 16 and 64GB of memory, contains Bluetooth and EDR wireless connectivity, has a speaker, and microphone, and also contains Apple’s accelerometers, ambient light sensors, and digital compass with assisted GPS technologies. There is a 30-pin connector for attaching the device to computers, but it also uses Bluetooth and Enhanced Data Rate technologies for fast wireless access up to 3Mbps. The device has a powerful battery that gives up to 10 hours of usage, and nearly a month of standby time.

Apple has not omitted the option for 3G connectivity. The system contains 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-fi options, but also can directly tap into UMTS/HSDPA and GSM/EDGE 3G wireless networks, and come unlocked and without any contract so if your wireless carrier uses a GSM micro SIM, it should “just work.” However despite this, the capability to make phone calls does not appear to be available, but then again it is not a phone. An internal camera is the one missing feature on the iPad, but there should be ways to add one as an accessory, though Apple has not mentioned. And the one really big disappointment is the device seems to be limited when it comes to multitasking.

As for the price, it has been able to provide all of this in the range of $499 to $699, and we should start seeing them hitting store shelves in about two months. Quite a reasonable price consider their earlier productions. The popularity of the iPhone has made it a raging success, and it, along with other “smart” devices, has shown Apple and other manufacturers that consumers are ready for a tablet. With the iPad Apple has come to define computing in the modern era, and like it or not, this really is the beginning of a new era, there will soon be no room for those cheap netbook, and the new fashion of palm computer begins here!

Clever Faucet tells Temperature

January 28th, 2010

LED water faucetWater is one of the most important elements in our daily life, we use it to drink, to wash and many more. But somehow water is kind of dangerous too, although we don’t have to worry about drown inside the house (well, still do if have got a personal pool at home), we do should be aware of impending burning! So here is a clever faucet that can warn you of the impending burning!

Yes, we’ve seen a couple LED faucets before, but this one is very different. Check it: rather than just making your water blue, which makes you feel like you’re doing the dishes with antifreeze, it changes color based on the temperature, making you feel like you’re doing the dishes with either antifreeze or Gatorade. Not just for fun, actually it’s a cool concept, as you won’t have to worry about scorching your hand while testing the water again. If it’s red, don’t mess with it. This could quite possibly be the world’s first color changing faucet — built-in LEDs change colors based on the water temperature. There is also “precise control” for baths, sinks, and showers.

So this is it, elegant and practical! No more worry about burnt, you can totally count on this high-tech water faucet!

“Lift Oven” for life

January 26th, 2010

Gaggenau OvenWomen love baking, it feels really awesome every time we made out some delicious cookies, not to mention a nice cake! We love the sweet smell and the wonderful mouthfeel of different cookies and cakes, and indeed we enjoy making such beautiful food, seriously! But what is this always standing in the way, driving us away from baking?

The oven! Of course, most of us have been injured or failed to make nice food due to a terrible oven. Here’s an example, every time you open the oven door, some heat escapes, which is one of the many reasons that baking times can vary from person-to-person for the same recipe, as there is no telling from a writer’s standpoint how long a person will leave his or her oven door open while trying to fit in cake pans and baking sheets, and this is sometimes why you can’t make out the right cake or cookie you’re suppose to. Now, the famous kitchen manufacturer Gaggenau has come up with an absolutely gorgeous oven that tries to solve this problem. The “Lift Oven” is built to utilize the fact that heat rises and, instead of having a door that opens on the front of the oven, it has a base that lowers to open and raises to close – leaving the hot air in the preheated oven above. Better yet, the manufacturer suggests mounting this oven above the counter, so the platform comes down to your level for loading and unloading and completely eliminating the need to bend down or to reach into a hot oven, therefore much less burnt! The oven opens and closes at the touch of a button, and Gaggenau says that it has 11 different heating methods, including a convection setting. It also has a glass-ceramic base, which you can put cookies, breads, pizzas and other baked goods on – no baking sheet required.

However, the only real drawbacks are the the oven is only 24 inches (many out there are larger, so it might not be idea for very large roasts, etc.) and it comes up with a quite astonishing price tag of $4,000. Well, Let’s say, there are plenty of ovens that are even more expensive, and this is still a great oven with wise design.

Future Car concept by Sergio Luna

January 26th, 2010

Sergio LunaCars are very important in our daily life now, for we really need that transportation to live in a city these days. Go through history you can certainly see the changes in car design. But what the future car would look like? We all have our own picture in mind, but still that’s the question no one can really tell until it actually comes out eventually.

Nevertheless, many manufacturers are trying to show us their idea. Here’a preview of one future car style with this Sergio Luna’s ‘2028 One’ car. Coming from the Michelin Challenge Design 2010, ‘2028 One’ is a single-seater for inter-city transportation. Based on the Segway mechanism, the lightweight vehicle is compact enough for an easy driving. Though it adopts a joystick, the car could also be entirely controlled by a computer.

Well, is this your idea of how the personal vehicle would look like in the future? Anyway, looks fun and beautiful line, but I really concerned about my luggages or shopping stuff, seems too small for those. Somehow I’ve got a really weird feeling that if they make a toy car like this, it’ll definitely sell! I would love to buy one!

Strange Sofa

January 25th, 2010

Acne sofaWe love interesting furnitures, they’re such a beauty in our house, nice furnitures are far more than practical! Like sofas, they’re like the most important furniture in our sitting room, they appear first when we step in our home, so they must be beautiful and unique enough to express our lifestyle and show our taste! So as we’ve looking for some really interesting pieces of  sofa, Acne’s New Furniture Collection has been revealed!

Speaking of Acne, we love the Swedish label Acne’s jeans, its ready-to-wear apparel and—most definitely—its sharp shoes. So it’s no surprise we find head designer Jonny Johansson’s debut furniture collection for the brand just as desirable. We love the sharp, skewed lines of the velvet pastel chairs and sofas—inspired by the work of the father of Scandinavian furniture design, Carl Malmsten—which were on display at an event in Paris days ago.

Here’re some examples for you, through which you can certainly realize how exclusive this collection is! We love how this pristine white chair turns off-kilter with a slight skewing of the legs. And This narrow lavender sofa makes you sit up straight, which is really good for your health and appearance. That ocean blue style looks like the most comfortable piece–a deep pool of velvet, still it has a skewed leg. Well, now see for yourself!
