Call it A Versatile Storage System

May 17th, 2010

Turning BoxesAlong  with our living standard being improved, our living space is becoming more and more small, not because we’re getting less living space, just we’re simply getting more and more gadgets for our life, and we might not have a storage system that is smart enough to store them nicely.

Yes, that’s our problem, it’s not that we can’t have so many little things, it’s just we need a nice storage system which can help us do the storage efficiently and beautifully. If you haven’t find yours yet, maybe this Turning Boxes is what you’ve been looking for.

Good design helps with better life! Take Lab Istanbul’s Turning Boxes for example. The creative bookshelf is made up of a series of boxes that can be conveniently rotated to serve as either a shelf or a container. So it is actually a multifunctional storage system for studio apartments and other small living areas where full-size furniture isn’t welcomed.

This is a really nice design, very beautiful and functional, and it can do storage for almost all your gadgets including books. It is really great to have this thing for life, and with a label on each box, everything’s literally at hand!

Make great use of your old drawers

December 24th, 2009

book casesEco-protecting has been a important thing in our daily life, therefore maybe it’s time for us to reconsider the way we manage our garbages. Here’s a thing about how to make a swanky book case from your old drawers.

Next time you’re about to kick a beat-up clothes dresser to the curb, take a minute to remove the drawers. With a little paint and decorative paper, you’ll make yourself a brand-new modular bookcase.

Home crafting blog Crafty Nest came up with a smart way to repurpose a group of drawers, especially ones that are oddly-sized or mismatched. All it took was a few coats of paint to prettify the outsides and some nice-looking paper to lay down on the bottoms of the drawers (which will become the back of the bookcase once it’s assembled).

Take a few minutes to sand down any rough edges, take off the drawer pulls, fill the in holes with wood putty, and slap on a couple layers of paint. Measuring and fitting the paper into the bottom of the each drawer is the trickiest part, and even that’s no big deal.

Paint a layer of glue onto the wood, then place the paper on top. I found it easier if I poured a thin line of glue onto the surface, then spread it with my paintbrush. Flatten the paper with a brayer or your hands. Smooth out the air bubbles before the glue sets. Let dry.

Now you have yourself a very swanky book shelf, this could be a great addtion to a home office or kids’ play ground. Obviously this isn’t the only way to repurpose a drawer, so tell me your idea!
