What A Handgun!
OK, this is not a usual household appliance, this is an exquisite auction piece, a gold-inlaid Colt handgun which auctioned for $259K! Since we’ve talked a lot about household appliances, and this pistol is really extremely elegant, let’s just spend some time to check out this super elegant handgun!
Here’s the story: This gold-inlaid handgun, which once belonged to Robert D Meldrum (also known as a classic “Bad Good Guy”), managed to fetch a cool $258,750 at an auction held by James D Julia. The classic Colt pistol was the star attraction at the auctioneer’s sale of antique firearms and militaria. As I was told, Robert D Meldrum got this pistol while he was working for the Tomboy Mine Company. They had presented him with two engraved pistols, with one in-laid with gold. If factory records are to be believed, there were only two gold-inlaid first-run Colt SAA’s ever made. These pistols were adorned with presentations and to add to the beauty, these pistols carried the distinctive patterns by master engraver Cuno Helfricht. Lately, a 1907 Luger by Greg Martin Auctions went for $494,000, making the Meldrum’s handgun to be the second handgun from a century back to fetch a six-figure amount this month. The extraordinary pistol carried a pre-sale estimate of between $200,000 and $400,000.
What a handgun! Please just view this as a compliment to this elegant art piece, not a weapon. I think this exquisite gold-plaid handgun is really beautiful as a art work, but does it really worth the money, not so sure!
